The idea of cooling a greenhouse with thermal buoyancy and wind dates back to the beginning of managed environment. When polyethylene originated with large sheets within the whole roof, putting vents on the roof proved difficult. Engineers then came up with the idea of using supporters that pull outside air flow through louvers in one endwall and exhaust it out the contrary end. With thermostatic control, this is, and still may be the accepted way for cooling many structures where positive air movement is needed.

If the sidewall vents are closed, cool air enters the bottom of the roof vent and the heated are escapes out the top of the vent.
